Quality of Life

The Quality of Life Committee is dedicated to creating an environment in the MCSC department that is comfortable and conducive to learning. Through our members, we are deciding which issues most affect graduate students, and we are determining the best way to help remedy these issues.

At our first open meeting, the following were addressed:
  1. A charge-per-copy photocopier should be available in the math library;
  2. Every student should receive a copy code each semester, and those students without an assistantship will be charged per copy;
  3. After hours building access should be automatically renewed each semester;
  4. Requests for after hours building access should be made during the week before classes begin, thus allowing access as soon as the semester starts;
  5. Access to room 736 should be automatic for all graduate students, and the card swipe should be maintained in working order;
  6. A full-sized refrigerator should be available to the graduate students;
  7. Access to SEO 300 and the mailroom should be available after the main office is closed;
  8. The ping pong table should be available for use;
  9. All office computers should be in working order. Each office should have its choice of operating system;
  10. TA's should be considered university employees, thereby receiving benefits extending to employees such as healthcare and retirement planning.
