- Ping-pong Tournament 2004
- The 3rd annual MSCS department Ping-Pong tournament was a rousing success, with 16 participants plus about a dozen spectators. And for the first time, we had competitors from Faculty, Staff, and Students! This year the format was a doubles tournament, which provided more participation for competitors and more entertainment for spectators. The 2004 MSCS department champions are Nghiem Nguyen and Roman Shvydkoy, who won all three of their matches en route to the title. Congratulations!
- All competitors, in order of finish:
- Nghiem Nguyen & Roman Shvydkoy, 3 wins, 0 loss
- Ali Shaker & Amir Niknejad, 2 wins, 1 loss
- Navin Ramachandran & Dongmin Cai, 2-1
- Phil Grizzard & Dan Bernstein, 2-1
- Yan Zhuang & Kat Brydges, 1-2
- Yuan Xu & Liqing Wang, 1-2
- Loretta Allen & Lisa Hull, 1-2
- Gail Tang & Marcus Bishop, proudly 0-3
- Superbowl Party 2004
- A small group of Mathgrads weathered the cold to come out to Phil's place in Forest Park. There
was plenty of food, and plenty of action on two screens. Of course, the infamous halftime show was
memorable, but so was the back-and-forth game, perhaps the *greatest ever Super Bowl.

- Basketball Game 2004
- The Flames overmatched visiting North Carolina-Wilmington for their 8th consecutive victory,
77-52. Our team would go on to win 12 in a row and qualify for the prestigious NCAA tournament for
only the third time in school history. The team also set a school record for wins, going 24-8
for the season.Several of us picked up free shirts and we all sat in FURY, the student section.
We then enjoyed free pizza after the game.
